8U lacrosse is the first level of organized lacrosse, it is played 5 on 5 on a smaller field to better suit the age of the players. The positions consist of 1 goalie, 1 defender, 1 attack and 2 midfielders.
These positions have rules in game they must follow, midfielders are allowed to roam the entire field, defenders must stay in the defensive zone and not cross the center line, the same is true for the attack however they must stay in the offensive zone.
This level is coach ref, this allows for penalties to be enforced but also teach the kids what went wrong and not punish them as they learn the game at a young age. Another important rule is the slaughter rule, if a team gains a 5 goal lead they must make 1 pass in the offensive zone before attempting a shot.
